Each year BWH brings a guest lecturer to the hospital to discuss trends in clinical obstetrics as part of the annual Safon Lecture program, named in honor of longtime BWH obstetrician Leonard Safon, MD and made possible with contributions from grateful patients, friends and associates.
This year’s lecturer, Linda Heffner, MD, PhD addressed the topic of “Advanced Maternal Age - How Old is too Old?” Heffner, associate professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School and director of Maternal Fetal Medicine at BWH, spoke about her research and clinical interests in the area of intrauterine fetal growth restriction. In her presentation, Heffner discussed the issues surrounding pregnan-cies in older women, uncovering the facts about advancing maternal age.
